Apart from the seo software tool mentioned for densities, the publishing S/W has a significant value; whether a plain old html or a c.m.s. option, is used.

 Some sofware will allow you to have complete control over

•  the text involved in the link (url)
• the way it is presented. Hypens to seperate words, or underscores for example
• levels of depth. This feature will eliminate the need for multiple forward slashes ( / ), which would typically give the appearance of seperate directories or folders (heirarchial structure). While ten levels deep, were common in the old days, they are best avoided if possible and specially in light of the whole  "supplemental index" fiasco of recent years.

Notepad or Word Pad.

Either of these two simple or basic text editors, are great. Just because they looking boring and don't have Jazzy imagery, doesn't mean that they are without uses;

• Find and replace seo software. Mainly useful for quickly establishing if a webpage on which there is a link pointing to you, uses the nofollow attribute. Or whether this condition applies to others, indeed.
• For html, php and other language editing / constuction.

Ftp program ( File Transfer Protocol ).

Even with a cms which does most of the uploading to server stuff ( writing to the database, etc.),  a cheap ftp program may be more convenient that the standard Microsoft one; common on computers.

Something like the Open Source ( Free software ) FileZilla might do, if a budget was tight.
